Michigan Cannabis Patients has served the Michigan Medical Marijuana Community for years.  After a recent hiatus, we are relaunching the site.

Information and Intelligent Discussion:

Too often cannabis forums such as the MMMA, Rollitup, and others tend to be dominated by groups and individuals devoted to bickering and promoting their own idea of what the Michigan Medical Marihuana Act ‘should’ be rather than what it is.  Those new to the community are looking for accurate information and to have their questions answered without the politics and bias of the general sites.  We hope to serve that need.

Michigan Cannabis Patients is designed to cut through the politics and agendas, to answer questions based on how things are and not how they should be, and to keep our forum participants up to date on court cases, changes in the laws and to accurately answer their questions from a standpoint of keeping people safe, not pushing the limits of the law.

Principles of the Site:

To make sure we are all on the same page, we feel it is important to lay down some basic ground rules-

  1. The Law is the Law.  You get certified to use medical marijuana, you send your paperwork into the state, and once approved you can grow up to 12 plants and possess up to 2.5 ounces.
  2. Your caregiver, if you have one, is the person printed on the back of your card, and only that person.
  3. If you are a caregiver, you can transfer to your registry associated patients and no one else.
  4. We follow what the courts say about the MMMA, even if we don’t agree with it, until a higher court says otherwise.

These are pretty basic rules.  Discussions about trying to bend them to allow for your pet theory about how you think the law reads are allowed to some extent, but they are to be presented in a thread, discussed, and if the consensus is they are a bad idea, they are done.

Speaking of threads, forum posts will be monitored to keep each topic on task.  If they wander, they will be closed and a new thread opened on the topic they wandered to.  We what each thread to be a discussion of a single issue, so those looking for information on that issue can go to it and read a focused discussion.

We will treat each other with politeness and respect.  Too often we have seen other forums simple degenerate into name calling between strong willed individuals.  This is why we restarted this site, to have a ‘drama free’ area for discussion between adults interested in learning and teaching.  By keeping things civil, we not only will have a happier site, but we hope to attract those experts and professionals in the community to want to post here.  The goal is to provide knowledge, not just entertainment.

This is an on-going project:

The site is currently being built.  We have some basic framework up, a couple of good RSS feeds, etc, but the forums haven’t been finalized in form or structure.  Once they are up, we are going to spend a great deal of time putting as much information as we and you can gather.  If you see something a new patient would be interested in, come in and start a thread with it.

Limited Self-Moderation:

We will have mods here, but if you start a thread, we are counting on you to see it through, to the point you are in charge so to say of your threads.  Monitor them and make sure they are on track while the discussion is active.  If you have a problem, or have to leave for awhile, drop us a note and ask us to keep an eye on your thread.  We will be by every now and again anyhow, but it is your topic.

Please pick an appropriate section of the forum to post:

Our general sections are for socializing.  We watch those because they are cross topic and open for the whole board.  If you have a medical, growing, or legal topic, put it in the medical, growing or legal section so we keep things organized.  If we feel a topic in general should be in growing, we might move it to a more appropriate section (we’ll send you a note as to why).

There may be more guidance as the case dictates, but that is a good start.  We don’t want to be overburdened with rules, but do have to have some order.

Thank you all for stopping by, and let’s make this forum a success!
